Melissa Ott

Melissa was born and raised in New Albany, IN where she met her current husband, Jeremy. In 1998, Melissa and Jeremy wed and moved to Corydon, IN. In 1999 they welcomed their first son and in 2001 their second son.

Melissa began a career at the University of Louisville Hospital in 2010 as a milk technologist in the neonatal intensive care unit. During this time at U of L is when Melissa decided she wanted to return to school to pursue an education in the nursing sciences with a long-term goal of becoming a nurse educator. In 2011, Melissa enrolled in the Indiana University Southeast Bachelor of Science in Nursing program and graduated with honors in 2016. In June following her graduation, she began her nursing career on the med/surg floor at the University of Louisville Hospital. In August 2021, due to an unfortunate circumstance, Melissa had to leave healthcare for three years. She returned to healthcare in April of 2024 for a short stint in long-term care rehabilitation when an opportunity for a position at ��ý presented itself. In August 2024, Melissa’s long-term nursing goal was realized when she accepted the full-time nursing instructor role at ��ý.

When Melissa is not teaching, she enjoys being a grandma (Momo) and spending time with family. Melissa’s hobbies include reading, camping, hiking, and collecting snowmen for Christmas.

Carissa Jury

Carissa was born and raised in Louisville, KY where she attended Lindsey Wilson College for BS in psychophysiology, University of Louisville for her BSN, Western Governors for her MSN and Murray State University for her EdD. Carissa taught within the Jefferson County Public School, JCPS, system from 2020 until 2024. She has worked in the emergency department at Norton Women’s and Children’s hospital since 2017. Her current position there is pediatric emergency room nurse. She joined ��ý in October 2024.

Carissa’s path to Caris has been unique. While working at Norton Carissa has created a quality improvement process to decrease door in to door out times in the emergency room helping care to start during triage. She worked in the adult emergency room full time until 2020 before switching to the pediatric side. Carissa’s love of the organized chaos in the emergency room has led her to serve as relief charge nurse frequently, be the ER representative on the evidence practice council, and to obtain certifications in both emergency nursing, CEN, as well as trauma nursing, TNCC. Carissa frequently precepts new nurses to the emergency room. She took this love of teaching to JCPS in 2020. Here she built a virtual allied health curriculum that met the KY state standards for a career and technical program. Her program comprised 8 classes with a dual credit option through JCTC. This program has served hundreds of students and upon her departure had a 100% pass rate in their state certification exam.

When Carissa is not teaching she is watching sports, playing PS5 or Switch, and collecting sneakers. She loves spending time with family and friends attending fire pits or game nights.

Kaitlin Cole

Kaitlin joined the Caris Veterinary Assistant team in October 2020. She graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Technology from Murray State University in 2018 and received her license as a Veterinary Technician. She brings several years of small animal general practice experience to the Caris team. Kaitlin grew up on a cattle farm in Bardstown, KY, and now owns and operates her own small hobby farm with her husband. She enjoys spending her free time outside with her chickens.

Talise Zirilli

Talise joined the Caris team as the Clinical Coordinator in March 2024. She grew up volunteering with animal rescue and fostering animals in need. She began her career in veterinary medicine in 2018. Since then she has worked in general practice, laboratory medicine in a hematology study, emergency and critical care in a veterinary ICU, and with exotic pets. She currently spends her free time taking care of her many special needs rescue animals. Which include a chihuahua, four cats, and a green cheek conure. She also loves hiking, swimming, and kayaking in the summer. She is passionate about helping new veterinary professionals get the best start in their careers.

Madison “Maddie” Redfern

Maddie is from Louisville, KY. She joined ��ý in 2024 as an Admissions Advisor. Maddie has 2 years of previous admissions experience and is currently working towards her Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education with a concentration in Mathematics at University of The Cumberlands. She has always had a passion for helping students.

While she is not working, Maddie enjoys reading, re-watching Harry Potter, and spending time with her three younger sisters!

Sandra Melendez

Sandra is a Louisville native. She received her BSN and MPH from the University of Louisville in 1993 and
2017, respectively. She worked for Louisville Metro Public Health and Wellness for 26 years, first as a
primary care clinic nurse then as a communicable disease surveillance and investigation nurse. She
retired in 2020 to begin her second career as a nursing instructor at ��ý. She has one
daughter, Carmen and a grand-cat, Kit.

Ashley Boas

Ashley grew up in northeast Indiana and moved to Indianapolis for college in 2004. She attended IUPUI’s Radiography, Associate of Science degree program where she obtained her RT(R) credential. She worked at the Roudebush VA Medical Center on the weekends while attending classes for the Bachelor of Science degree program in Medical Imaging Technology, specializing in Sonography. Ashley graduated in 2010, obtaining her RVT(VT) credential and began work at the IU Methodist Vascular Lab. After 6 years at the vascular lab, she and her husband relocated closer to family in southern Indiana where she began working in the general ultrasound department at Schneck Medical Center. Ashley studied for and obtained her RDMS(AB) credential in 2022. She was also the clinical instructor for ��ý while working at SMC. She has a passion for ultrasound and loves teaching the students and seeing the “a-ha” moment on their face when they grasp a new concept. Ashley joined the Caris team in December 2023 as the clinical coordinator and looks forward to helping students on their path to a career in sonography.

While not at work, Ashley enjoys spending time with friends and family. She also enjoys travelling and hobbies such as skiing (water & snow), scuba diving and hiking.

Beth Hudgins

Beth was born and raised in Louisville, Ky. She attended Spencerian College in 1997 and became an LPN. In 2003 she went back to Spencerian where she received her associate degree in nursing. In 2021 she finished her bachelor’s degree at Western Governors University. She has worked in intensive care units, emergency departments, and Labor and Delivery.

Beth has been married 20 years to her husband, Kelly. He was in the Army, and they moved around every 5 years. They lived in Texas and Tennessee. When Kelly retired from the Army, they moved back to the Louisville area. Beth has three children. Two boys and one girl.

In her free time Beth enjoys riding on her husband’s motorcycle with him. They also enjoy hiking and camping. When they have the time, they love to travel. This past summer they took the motorcycle to the Black Hills, Mount Rushmore, and the Rockies’.

Beth is passionate about helping educate the students to become safe and compassionate nurses.

Stacia Burton

Stacia joined the Caris Veterinary Assistant team as the Program Director in October 2023. She is currently finishing her Bachelor’s degree in science, and has been working as a Veterinary Technician since 2013, working in several aspects of veterinary medicine – including large and small animal care, exotic animal care, and emergency medicine.

During Stacia’s free time, you can find her spending time with her husband, children and friends. She loves to be outside camping, hiking, or boating. During her down time, she also enjoys reading.

Sloan is from Louisville, Kentucky where she currently resides with her husband, Jake. Sloan joined ��ý in 2023 as an admissions advisor.

Sloan graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Centre College in Danville, Kentucky where she majored in Psychology and minored in Studio Art. After graduation, Sloan worked as a corporate recruiter which piqued her interest into the world of admissions.

In her freetime, Sloan enjoys painting, spending time with her family, and traveling.
